~ Dying Embers ~
It was just a day in early spring
When in my heart a flame began to grow.
Fanned by words and thoughts of love
It became a raging fire as you surely know.
You were in my thoughts both day and night
As the heat from this fire consumed me.
I knew that nothing could tame this flame,
And from this love I would never be free.
But, now, many months have flown
And the flame that burned within your heart
In spring with warmth that mirrored mine,
Has now become an ember as we drift apart,
My fire burns as brightly as ever,
For on a daily basis it is always fed.
As I read over an over again each letter,
Absorbing each word of love that you said.
Now you tell me we must get together
To tell each other what's on our mind.
But, I know that I will look into your heart
And see things that I do not want to find.
For the fire in my heart still burns bright.
The flames so warm and bold.
And in your heart only dying embers,
The symbol of a love grown cold.
