More than 700 Swiss officers and soldiers died while defending the Tuileries
Palace in Paris, where King Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette, and their children
were taken, after trying to escape the French Revolution in 1792.
In the early 1800s, the Danish artist Bertel Thorvaldsen was hired to sculpt a monument to the fallen Swiss Guards. His finest sculpture in a sandstone cliff, "Das Lowendenkmal". |

Kapellbrucke, "Chapel Bridge" was built in 1333. It was nearly destroyed by careless workmen in a fire in 1993, but they did an excellent restoration/reproduction. The bordered background you see is Lisa at the entrance. The following photos were taken from the bridge and surrounding area. |
