Distant Reflections

dedicated to all those who lost
loved ones on Sept. 11th 2001.
Whether we knew them personally
or not we all felt a deep loss.
The distant reflections of the years gone by
So seemingly close, yet I drift, and I sigh,
"Could it honestly, have been so long,
Since I danced with you to our favorite song?"
And the reflections, like ripples, in a cool mountain stream,
Move ever-onward, with no end, it would seem.
Each ripple touches another reflection,
And flood me with memories and deep introspection.
Each life is touched by so many, it seems,
Yet, each life can hold such different dreams.
We were so blessed to share moments in time,
When my heart was yours, and your heart was mine.
But, those moments never seem long enough,
When remembering the blessings of true, honest love.
Those moments flash by like a quick shooting star,
And tonight my reflections are so near, yet so far.
A distant reflection of memories gone by,
They tease me with laughter, and some make me cry...
But, I am so grateful for every last tear,
Because for an instant, it's as if you are here!
The distant reflections of the years gone by
So seemingly close, but I drift, and I sigh,
"Could it honestly, have been so long,
Since I danced with you to our favorite song...?"
