~ The Dying Tree ~
She tried to lift her limbs
upward toward the sky
Then she bowed her head
and spoke to the river running by
'My days are all spent
and I'm going to die,
Won't you murmur for me gently
as you go passing by?'
The river answered back
'Don't be sad dear one,
I'll be waiting for you here
when one day you'll return'
'You'll be gone for a while
and go back to the earth
to nourish the soil
and bring forth new birth'
'Then one day you'll reappear
in fresh and queenly clothes,
In the freshness of the lily
and the fragrance of a rose.'
