~ On Parents Aging ~

When the child becomes the parent
And the parent becomes the child,
When the one who was once vital
Now becomes so weak and mild;

When their minds become forgetful
And their bodies have slowed down
And all the joys and laughter
Now sometimes become a frown;

When those we have depended on
Now must on us depend,
We must extend a loving hand
To help them without end.

All our friends and loved ones
Must learn to understand,
They lovingly gave to us
With outreaching, helping hand!

When we were small and helpless,
Could do nothing for our self,
They encouraged and gave to us,
Please don't leave them "on a shelf".

They gave unconditionally,
Asking NOTHING to repay.
Just the words, "I love you!"
Now, how better could we say?

So, give them back all the caring
Which they have given you.
Your reward will be unlimited
When you do all you can do!

And when you get to Heaven
And Jesus has His open Book,
He will call you to His side
When He takes another look.

"You have honored both your parents.
As I have commanded you!
You have a special place in heaven.
You did all that you could do!"

And the 1st Commandment reads:
"Honor your Father and Mother!"
