~ But For The Grace Of God ~

As I look back on that day,
And all the memories ~
But for the Grace of God...
There goes ME!

The memories of co-workers,
Who were lost, but not forgot ...
Their dedication and allegiance...
They did not die for naught...

The young, the old..all innocent,
That lost their lives in that attack,
Would not want us to stop living...
Would not want us to look back...

The firemen and policemen,
Who did their jobs so brave,
Now lie in remembrance,
Sleeping peacefully in their grave...

The soldiers who have given
Their lives so that we
Could stand among the living
And count ourselves among the free...

The fighting's long from over...
The sacrifices in this war...
Are all so freely given
For all they're fighting for...

And if you see me standing here
Tears streaming from my eyes...
It's but for pride for all the ones
Who gave their very lives...

That I may live both free and brave
And hold my head up proud...
Not lost among the confusion,
But to rise above the crowd...

And say...

When I see the red, white and blue
Flying proudly in the sky...
I think of those that fell along the way
And whisper,

'But for His Grace, there go I!'

~Dedicated to the lives of those who fell on 9-11-01 and those who have given their lives since...But for the Grace of God, there go I!~
