Angel In Cotton Print
~
As I walked down the corridor I
saw her sitting there
She was looking for someone to speak or to care
I knew not her name or from where she came
But the joy on her face as I approached was priceless.

She grabbed my arm
and tried to speak
In her mind .....I was the one she did seek
I could tell she'd had a stroke
No way could I understand all the words she spoke.

But one of the things I understood her to say
... "Do you know ME?"
Pretending that I did ....
I hugged her and told her how pretty she looked
While I listened to her joy and watched the light in her eyes,
as she babbled on like a sparkling brook.

And I prayed to heaven God Bless this poor soul
with the bluest of eyes
as bright as the skies.
Her hair shone like silver and her dress was of cotton print
She reminded me of an Angel
that was Heaven sent,
whose wings had been clipped.

As I gently told her goodbye and continued on my way
Thinking to myself......
God spoke to me that day

This happened to me yesterday as I
went
to the nursing home to visit
another old friend there---
I tell you dear it broke my heart .
In this busy crazy world
---the old ones ---
are forgotten treasures .
And we are the lost ...not them.
