Feeling past your used by date,
Snuggled up into a corner
Peaceful, feeling somewhat alone
Pondering memories only you can own
From time that just won't wait.
But you glow for all the world to see
You are invaluable to the heart of me,
I view you there in all your glory
Resplendent in the wonder that you are
Where you've been, all you've done
You aren't just any rusty old car.
I imagine all the loving that went on
The dreams you kept under your bonnet
As couples snuggled up on your seats,
Children that stroked your soft leather
Babies diapers changed out of the weather
Ice cream dribbled for Sunday treats.
Wild dashes in the night, with an angel not well
A little one that fell
Your lights streaming into the night,
To guide the way as rain streamed down
Through muddy ruts on the journey to town
Longing to see the welcoming light.
Your boot crammed full with food for a week
After a days busy shopping spree,
Maybe a roll of wire, a bag of wheat
Your axle dragging down to the street,
The family singing all the way home
All this beauty is what I see.
So, when they put you here with a sigh
A newer model to buy
It was only out of necessity,
No-one wanted to say goodbye
To a friend that will never die
Tucked away in our heart, you will always be.
