~ Grandma's Space ~
I am old, but I
remember
Those days now long
gone by
How grandma loved to
rock
To sit by the window
and sigh
You see she was
watching
Outside at play
All those who were
babies
In her younger day
She had visions of
smiles
Looking up in her
eyes
As she rocked each
one
To quiet their cries
How she longed to
have
One more baby to
hold
And rock them to
sleep
But now they're too
old
So she held her
peace
And never complained
She was only grandma
The children were
playing
No time to notice
The longing in her
eye
Or even to realize
How the years
slipped by
But the day came
soon
Grandma was called
home
The children now
noticed
Her rocker was gone
Then the company of
grandma
Would have been so
nice
As the night settled
in
Now everything is so
quiet
Each child now grown
Having babies of
their own
Wish many times over
That grandma was
still home
We all enjoyed her
rocking,
Each of us in that
chair
Nothing in this
world will ever
Fill that space,
that now is bare
