~ He Chose It All ~

Three nails held Him upon that tree;
A thorny crown upon His head.
They rent His garments at His feet,
Impatient for Him to be dead!

A sign above that cross
Read, 'Here hangs the King of Jews!'
And at the foot of that cruel cross,
He was wept for by only a few!

His side was pierced by a wicked spear;
A wine-soaked sponge He was offered as drink.
Wouldn't His blood have sufficed?
His death would have been enough. Don't you think?

BUT....

He CHOSE the nails that held Him there~
He CHOSE that cruel and thorny crown~
He CHOSE the suffering He endured~
For from that cross He could have come down!

He chose to stay upon that rugged cross,
Not nails, but love was holding Him!
He chose to suffer there for us,
So we could escape the wages of sin!

Yes, His death would have sufficed;
All that was required was His spilled blood!
But He CHOSE to suffer as He died...
And He did it all out of Perfect Love!

Inspired by Max Lucado's Book, 'He Chose the Nails!~
'Oh, Father', you pose
heart stilled at what could be,
'I'm sorry to ask, but long to know,
did you do this for me?'
By Max Lucado

Every good and perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of heavenly lights
who does not change like shifting shadows.
He CHOSE to give us birth through the word of truth,
that we might be a kind of first fruits of all He created.
James 1:17-18 (NIV)
