~ Mother, May I?
~
(At 3 years old)
"Mommy, Mommy, may I
Climb in my warm, soft bed?"
"Not until your face is cleaned
And your prayers are said!"
(At 8 years old)
"Mama, Mama, may I
Go and play outdoors?"
"Not until your homework's done
And you've finished all your chores!"
(At 16 years old)
"Mother, Mother, may I PLEASE,
Go with Tony to the prom?"
"Not until we talk with Dad
When he gets back home!"
(At 20 years old)
"Mother, Mother, may I
Marry my sweet Dan?"
"Not until he talks with Dad
And asks him for your hand!"
(At 23 years old)
"Mother, Mother, will you be with me
As this baby I will bear?"
"Daughter, dear, you know I will!
For you, I'll be forever here!"
"Mother, Mother, can I come home now?"
As I knelt beside her grave.
"Wait just a little longer, dear,
There's many more souls to be saved!"

~Through her perseverance: I found strength!
Through her love: I found wisdom!
Through her prayers: God found me!
Thank you for all your gifts, Mama.~
Train up a child in the way he should go:
And when he is old, he shall not depart from it.
