I wonder how many people have stood
Since all this was quite new,
And looked out o'er the pastures,
and seen this lovely view?
Or sat out on the terraces
Drinking tea, and eating cake,
And sat and watched the sun go down,
Behind our shining lake?
This view has been so little changed
In many a hundred year.
The meadows, farm and parkland,
Grow more precious every year.
No housing estates will e'er be built
To spoil what I can see,
And I pray within my deepest heart,
That this will never be.
Such tranquil views are hard to find,
So close to where man thrives,
And to build upon it, I know too well,
Would spoil so many lives.
For here we see the hand of God,
In peace and harmony,
I cannot praise Him enough, I know,
For this beautiful tranquility.
