With every passing year
My day of "reckoning" draws near.
What will friends and family say
When they learn I've passed away?
Will they know I did the best I could
If not always what they thought I should?
Would they think of me as kind and fair
Knowing that for each I did truly care.
I will not want to see tears in their eyes,
Instead, want them all to just realize
I was not always this person so old,
That I lived life with a passion so bold.
While there were days filled with pain,
I learned that sunshine followed rain.
God, in His infinite wisdom knew,
Spirit's rise when the sky turns blue.
When loved ones went on ahead
He gave me friends to love instead.
Empty places in my heart were filled,
The ache within my soul was stilled.
Life to me was an adventure every day,
Wondering what next would come my way.
Knowing full well God had a plan for all,
Never knowing when for me He'd call.
So, fill your life with love and laughter
On your journey to the hereafter.
I sincerely hope you'll miss me for a while,
But, please, no tears, for me only a smile.
