~ Old Age ~
Let me tell you a wee bit
about being old,
A subject I'm an authority
of, I am told.
Hair turns white
or it sometimes just "goes"
And sometimes where you
don't want, it grows.
Rippling muscles that once
made you proud,
We'd keep them forever is
what we vowed.
But now they're encased in
a layer of fat.
We discovered we can't do
much about that.
A sack of groceries once
handled with ease
Now brings on pain in
shoulders and knees.
Just get out and walk is
what we are told,
But, we know it is either
too hot or too cold.
Some folks think, with
age, we lose our mind
Because there's a few
things we can't find.
Names are often hard to
recall, that is true,
Still, in all, our life is
definitely not through.
One thing we know, some
things you can't change
And we don't make plans
that are long-range.
We don't take today for
granted you see
And we know tomorrow comes
with no guarantee.
But, we have memories,
times of youth and love
When we did not walk with
death hand-in-glove.
We have learned what's
important in living,
That joy comes from
caring, sharing and giving.
We find it easier to love
than to hate others,
Learning to respect all as
sisters and brothers.
To offer a kind word or a
warm helping hand,
Letting someone know that
you understand.
Yes, we've discovered, God
is love and hope,
And with his help we have
learned to cope.
So, with age, just relax
and enjoy each day
Eliminate stress and
strife for it really is OK.
