~ Once Knew Love ~
I know that the Lord and my children will always love me
Still the nights are so lonely, as alone in my bed I sleep
It's in the nights at times I feel lost, never to find my way
Thinking back to how it was, only seems like yesterday
The honest words that were spoken, never hidden in a lie
What comfort it was, thinking that feelings would never die
Knowing that trust, built over so many years together
Would stand us as one, to hold back life's stormy weather
With ease we would talk about anything we'd feel
Compromise, was the way that we always closed a deal
Soothing was a touch, no matter what was the mood
Our souls becoming full, with feelings that felt so good
Passion, so intense, seemed like it was fire in the heart
As the way it was put out, became like a fine art
Hearing the rhythm of breathing, while falling to sleep
Believing that these feelings, we'd always keep
Yes, once I knew love, though it seems so long ago
The memories, are still burning embers, warming the soul
But now I look to the Lord, for me to share my spirit again
For in the sleep of night, dreams still keep hope aflame
