~ Ordinary Heroes ~

There are heroes in the news
we read about each day.
We hear about their story,
lives that they have saved.

A fireman risks his life
to save a little child;
He ran into a building
consumed by raging fire.

But what about the heroes
who never make the news?
A single mother working late
to give her child new shoes?

The father who’s a coach
for a small town baseball team.
A teacher spending extra time
to bring a child a dream?

Neighbors helping neighbors
when disaster comes their way,
those who volunteer to help
and never ask for pay.

Inside of each and everyone
is a hero standing by;
a soul who cares enough
to dry a crying eye.

Today give thanks for heroes
who do ordinary deeds
the ones we never notice
who are sowing heaven’s seeds.
