~ Our Castle ~
Together we built our castle;
with love we filled each room.
We built fortresses all around,
to protect us from the gloom.
We went about our tasks each day,
forgetting to check the walls.
We had built a castle out of sand
and soon it began to fall.
The love we had thought would last,
has withered and washed away,
as the ocean of life swept in,
as we headed in separate ways.
In panic we tried to rebuild each wall,
but the ocean was ever so strong.
It seemed the harder we tried,
the more everything went wrong.
I stood looking out at our castle,
wondering when life took this turn;
then you reached and brushed my tears,
and mingled them gently with yours.
Walking together hand in hand,
we talked of love we’d let die;
we vowed to recapture our future,
a future that held you and I.
