Together we come, to salute as one
The game of life, now to be raced,
To cheer on the mighty winners
And pray for more unfailing grace.
A cloud of witnesses stand above
Those gone before to hail us on,
Though now we feel without applause
Jesus says it won't be long.
But what if one should feel too weak
Without the strength to see it through,
Jesus comes alongside to lift on high
With awesome power for two.
What weights then, should we cast away
That hinder us from running free,
The things we know will drag us down
To blur all we should see.
Shall I choose some lightweight wear
To streamline me on angels wings,
If I put on love and joy and hope
Will that release my soul to sing.
All that remains then is to look ahead
To keep running as we are,
And not be distracted by alluring sights
But eyes fixed upon the morning star.
To look at how He won His race
By making joy the perfect goal,
The glow that set His face to win
His love to make us whole.
In seeing past that lonely cross
He blazed the trail of fear and pain,
By picturing us perfect in heaven
The grief was worth our gain.
He hit the tape with glory
And crossed the finish line with love,
Keeping His heart focused on the reward
Of bringing us home to Him above
Pass the torch on
to everyone you love.

since we are surrounded
by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders
and the sin that so easily entangles,
and let us run the race marked out for us.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author
and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy set before Him,
endured the cross
scorning it's shame,
and sat down at the right hand
of the throne of God.
