Alone blindfolded, in the long dark night,
cold, shivering, parched lips, eerie depths, the plight
forest whispers, wolves howling, echo,
owls screeching, shrill, screaming let fly
wings beating air, so near, wind heaving branches,
rasping, he must stay, be brave, defy
be strong, eyes closed
still.... all night long
to prove skill
and courage, strength of will
of mind, of heart, of soul,
maturity, rites of manhood
he would belong
hours stealthily creep on by,
silent sky, shadows
the cry of the woods
he must not look
must not break the code
must endure, not knowing,
hot breath menacing
wolves circling, closer, closer
he must not.....
dare not look....

To be a man he must not...

Slowly, slowly, the soft warmth,
gently now upon his face
Cautiously, the blindfold is dropped away
opening tentative eyes
in the dawning light of day

To find, tender eyes of grace
the Father's loving gaze
comfort, to look upon
silent, still, forever strong

Good morning my son-of-might
I have been here always, close
watching you, all through-
your long and darkest night

The LORD will keep you from all harm, He will watch over your life;
He will not let your foot slip,
He who watches over you will not slumber;
from His dwelling place He watches all who live on earth-
Psalm 121:3,7, 33:14
You gave me life and showed me kindness,
and in your providence watched over my spirit.
Job 10:12
