~ Two Years ~

It seems almost impossible
To think it's been two years!
Because it's just like yesterday...
I'm still choked up with tears!

I close my eyes, the image clear...
Black clouds filled the sky...
The vigils held in candlelight...
No one ashamed to cry.

They say that time can heal all wounds...
Somehow it won't ring true...
For hearts in our America
Cry tears Red, White & Blue

I try to sleep, I see again...
Those rolling clouds of dust...
And all of New York's Bravest
Doing what they must!

Broken hearts still try to heal...
Their silent tears still fall...
Little voices in the night
Still wail their plaintive call...

"Daddy, Mommy, where are you?
I love you, and I miss you...
Won't you come to tuck me in...
Come back so I can kiss you!"

No, I don't think these wounds will heal...
They're etched deep in our soul...
The Eleventh of September,
Has taken quite a toll!

Today we'll take a moment...
Remembering the cost...
Recall the days of horror
As we tallied those we lost...

Each one a human being...
With dreams, and hopes now gone,
At times it almost feels as though
Those left just can't go on...

But, we must lift each other...
We'll stumble, but we'll fight...
One day we'll be together,
To bask within His light!

Another year has come and gone...
As we bow our heads to pray...
But, our Heroes aren't forgotten,
They've just merely stepped away...
