~ What I Was Missing ~

As each day passes,
I feel so empty and sad.
Why do I feel this way?
I really should be glad.

My home is so lovely,
With a magnificent view.
Out front is my car,
All fancy and new.

The inside of my home is furnished,
With the most beautiful of things.
I have all the newest appliances,
Lots of fine jewelry, and diamond rings.

I thought that I had everything,
I thought I had it all.
Perhaps I missed something,
I had better drive down to the mall.

I push my shopping cart,
From aisle to aisle.
When it is filled to the top,
My face breaks out in a smile.

I glide on down to the check stand,
Where there is such a long line.
I grab a book to read,
Just to pass the time.

As I read through the pages,
I cannot believe what I see.
It spoke of some strange man,
Who lived and died for me.

I stand in confusion,
So bewildered and perplexed.
I really must get this book,
To see what happens next.

As I read each chapter,
Verse after verse.
I can now see why,
My life keeps getting worse.

I eventually put down the book,
Feeling so tired, I look up and sigh.
I totally break down,
And soon begin to cry.

My emptiness and sadness,
Had been filling me from the start.
I knew now what I was missing,
I did not have Jesus in my heart.

Today I feel so completely fulfilled,
With happiness and content.
And to my amazement,
This joy did not cost me one cent.

hunger and thirst for
for they will be filled.'
