~ A Father ~

Dedicated to all
wonderful dads everywhere

He anxiously waited to hear the news
as he paced the waiting room floor.
Any minute he knew the doctor
would come striding through the door.

He couldn’t believe this day had arrived,
the day that would soon change his life;
he was soon to be a new father,
but he worried right now ‘bout his wife.

And then came the happiest of greetings,
“You now have a beautiful child!
She entered this world just a moment ago.”
And the father just stood there and smiled.

The years seemed to pass by so quickly,
his child went from toddler to teen,
one minute she was riding a bicycle,
the next she was chosen prom queen.

The father stood proudly with tears in his eyes,
as his daughter was soon college bound.
He prayed he had taught her the lessons of life,
that would hold her close to the ground.

He couldn’t believe this day had arrived,
the day that would soon change his life;
today was the day his beautiful child
would become another man’s wife.

From birth to taking her very first steps,
from wiping the tears that she cried,
this father had watched his daughter grow
now he proudly walked next to a bride.

But before she turned to meet her groom,
she turned to her father and said,
‘Dad, you will still be a part of my life,
you will always be my best friend.”
