~ Country Ride ~
I took a ride into the country
To have a look around,
I wanted to see what had changed,
Since I had moved to town.
And, oh the changes I did see
Just filled my heart with woe,
For there are houses coming up
Everywhere you go.
There used to be fields of green
And woods clear to the road,
Now the countryside is nothing
Like in the days of old.
The old farm where I spent time
When I was just a child,
It now has lots for sale
With weeds just growing wild.
Oh the memories it brought back,
Of horses, cows and hay.
Soon there won't be things like that,
Like in days of yesterday.
I am so glad that I grew up
In those days of old,
When the country was country,
And no lots were being sold.
