~ Gone ~

What happened to those olden days
The best ones. without a doubt.
When neighbors lent a hand to you
When times were down and out.

The woman folks would cook
The bread and fixings too,
The men would lend a hand
In any fixing that was due.

The children laughed and played
Bare foot was the way to go
In the heat of a summer's day
Lemonade was served so cool.

When all the work was finished
And everyone seemed well fed
Pa would get the fiddle going
As sleepy children nodded heads.

The ladies took their shoes off
And danced across the floor,
That fiddle doing it's magic
Someone yelled, please just one more.

As the grandfather clock struck twelve
Children were gathered into wagons,
The folks would say their good nights
As Ma and Pa went to bed a draggin'.
