Have you ever watched a bird so softly
sleeping
On it's perch, but never toppling,
But, how can it be so stable
To stay there without falling.
The special secret is the strong tendons
In the bird's legs, locked just right,
For, while the leg is bent,
the claws grip tight,
So they do not topple down in fright.
The claws will not release
Until the knees move just so slightly.
That bended knee is the key
That holds him to his perch so tightly.
From sleeping birds, we can learn the secret
Of how to hold, so we won't slip,
It is the knee bending in prayer,
That maintains a secure grip.
Fastened at rest, in all that is forever.
For, as we hold to God in prayer,
We can rest assured He holds us tight,
In His forever care.
