My Jesus died that day for me,
Crucified
upon the killing tree.

Why did He choose to be persecuted.
Why did He give His life
to want to set me free.

He did it for His soul's pure joy,
With delight
for the hope of new life was His ploy.

Why did He leave His home,
His heavenly kingdom
where He sat upon the throne.
He did it out of the loving grace,
of His favor
so my sin could forever be erased.

Why did He bear the piercing pain,
Can such cruel suffering
bring any gain.
He did it to win the raging war,
To conquer
my death and it's condemning law.

Why did He bear the mocking scorn,
The hate
and have His Father mourn.

He did it out of purest love,
For me, He gave all of the perfection
of our God above.

Why did Jesus choose to die for me?
For Him to rise
with the promise that today and tomorrow
I will be with Him for eternity.

Thank you Lord Jesus
for the wonderful new life you give to me.
