~ On Your 50th Birthday ~
My friend, today you reached a mile stone,
As the years have come and gone.
Don't you worry, is an honor you see,
To have lived half a century.
It wasn't that many years ago,
That I was there, don't you know?
Why, I thought my life was done,
Till I realized it had just begun.
"You look good for your age" is a term l hate,
But I won't let it bother me, at any rate.
I look them in the eye, and I say with a smile,
"So do you, dear, my it's been awhile."
We have something to blame our aches on,
And when we forget, we can say our mind's gone.
We can color our hair; too keep our youthful look,
Gray? Are you kidding? Never in my book.
But my friend, I do hope you have a great day,
And forgive me, the things that I say.
I am sending this with good cheer,
To tell you, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my dear.
