~ Portrait Of A Lady ~
Upon her cheek, a
blush of rose
Above, a brow so stern
Long-lost love, do you suppose
Her thoughts I can't discern
A posy pinned beneath her breast
To match her cheek so pink
A picture-perfect pose, unless
She sits upon the brink
Brink of what, I do not know
Her eyes do not deceive
Lips so lush, yet tight, do show
Dire need of a reprieve
In dark attire, perhaps he died
Her man, and left her there
To a fate unspecified
With none to shield nor care
Vanity caught upon a lens
In this case....I think not
Dimpling, there, at her chin,
Says pain is ne'er forgot

"Mrs. Charles Schreiber" by John Waterhouse)
When crying in the darkness
Remember yet, when comes the dawn
Another day is right ahead
And you are not alone ~
